Designer dresses for a song
Today's brides are much more cost conscious about the price of their wedding gown than the brides of a few years ago. While most brides typically spend over $1500 on their wedding dress, many in the past have bought two dresses for their special day: the wedding gown, and an evening dress to change into after the wedding dinner.
A recent survey of brides conducted by David's Bridal indicated brides would not spend more than $800 on their bridal gown, and, they said that an expensive gown was not a necessary part of their special day.
Many retailers have already responded to the change in preferences and bridal gowns can now be found for less than $500. Even celebrity designers like Vera Wang have included dresses in their range priced between $500 and $1,500, very different from the regular $5,000 and up her line usually commands.
And what are brides doing with the money they have saved? Some report they are using it towards their honeymoon; others are putting it towards a deposit on a new home.
